a gentleman

The other day, during a conversation about the legal profession, my friend asked me what an "Esquire" was. I looked it up.

Esquire.
noun. 1 - An unofficial title of respect, having no precise significance . . . In Britain, applied to a commoner considered to have gained the social position of a gentleman.

At least I'll be a gentleman. I will be of no precise significance mid-December.
