footnote

I switched to chrome. It's beyond fast, but it's missing a few things. For example, why can't I make my bookmarks "bar" into an icon? The extra line is unnecessary. Also, why isn't there an easy accessible zoom button? Com'mon google, let's keep pace.

I've also been MIA for a few days because I had to finish a brief with my moot court teammates. The content is good, but as always, we gave ourselves a heart-attack by submitting it 4-min before its due. We were also forced to priority-overnight ship the physical bound copies. The school better reimburse.

Because our schedules didn't match, my team and I collaborated over google docs, which is the absolutely amazing.  I always knew hat you could collaborate real-time, but actually doing it is an entirely different story. With that being said, when we copied our text from google docs to WORD, there were a few things that didn't translate over (if any of you care - if you save the google document as a pdf or doc instead of copying into Adobe Acrobat or Word, it will indeed transfer all data correctly). The most heartbreaking thing was that, in our rush to submit our brief, we didn't realize that my footnote didn't transfer over.

I can't explain to you how disappointed I am about my footnote. I will not be humble. It was an amazing footnote. It was well-research, well-cited, well-written and discussed a controversial issue of individual constitutional rights. I even cited a case in which Nike was involved. I know you all think I'm going crazy, but this footnote was the work of a saint, and it was my baby.  I will never live this up.

  1. what? stupid browser didn't process my comment so i have to type it over...

i used google docs before when i collaborated on a SEC paper with fumihiko but it was kind of frustrating because when you saved, the update lagged and every time they made a change, it shifted the text so it was hard for me to keep track of where i was and what changes were made...
maybe google has made updates since but its first impression on me wasn't the greatest.

oh and, if it compares to me showing a ctec video to an audience and forgetting to include the credits i worked so hard on, i know how you're feeling. if that doesnt compare in anyway...sorry.

if it makes you feel better, there's no question that your footer was the bestest in the world.

  2. aaaaah. Well, to be fair, we were largely working on different parts of the brief. However, even when all three of us were editing the the same portion, google docs kept pace.

When we were actually together and in front of a TV, google docs worked best (though I see how being together may in it of itself dilute the value of online real-time colab). I hooked up my computer to the TV, and all three of us sat around with our laptops in front of us. In the final hours, we went through the brief line by line and edited everything together, looking at the tv for a better view.

With that being said, google docs + skype would be just as effective.

Thank you, cliff. Your comments do make me feel somewhat better. But damn, I tell you. I will never be able to write such a good footnote ever again. If we get anything lower than "best brief," then I will be convinced of the footnote's immeasurable value, though that is a logical fallacy.

if you leave your bookmarks untitled, you can make them icons on your bookmark bar.

  5. is that julie actually commenting on my blog post for once???! Chrome IS nice. I like it a lot.

Fumihiko! Actually, I was trying to get rid of the extra "bar" altogether. I found out a way to do it. I just simply dl'd a bookmark extension (thank you open source, google!) and now there is a start next to my wrench icon on the same line as the address bar.
